We believe a crucial step toward equality is to have women in positions of leadership. Therefore, its inherent in our programs and services that we facilitate opportunities for women and youth to use their critical thinking and identified skills to advocate for change in our community. This is especially true of young women. 35% of the members on our Board of Directors are under the age of 35; for many of them, this is their seminal role in a leadership position of its kind.

A Message from Christine Vigna, YWCA Cambridge Board President

Christine Vigna

My journey with the YWCA Cambridge started 16 years ago, when I was fortunate enough to be named as Young Woman of Distinction. While being recognized was something I was very grateful for, nothing could have made me more proud and committed to investing in our community than hearing about the incredible work and care taking place through the programs of the YWCA.

Each and every day I am humbled by countless hours our staff and volunteers pour in to programs such as TechGyrls, Small Steps to Success and Roots of Empathy.

For the past 6 years I have had the opportunity to sit as a member of the Board of Directors and this year I am honoured to assume the role of President. As a Mother, Daughter, Aunt, Sister and female member of society, I unfortunately know all too well the gender biased roadblocks that still exist in today’s world. I also know just how incredibly powerful we, as a community, can be when we support, encourage and lift up all members of society, regardless of gender, age, race, class or orientation.

The YWCA is an organization that promotes the betterment of our community, and all of its members, through inclusion, acceptance, curiosity and understanding of the whole self. It is through this holistic approach that they are able to challenge the culture that allows it to continue. The work the YWCA undertakes in our community has never been more important and that is why I am so grateful to be a part of this incredible organization.
