Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Join us in Making a Difference One Step at a Time

Walk A Mile in Her Shoes is one of our two annual major fundraising events.  This family friendly event always garners attention both from community members and from onlookers! This year’s event will be held on Wednesday June 12, 2013 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Cambridge City Hall.

The premise is simple: men walk a few blocks in women's shoes in support of our programs which are work toward creating a more equal and tolerant Cambridge!

If you’re considering walking with us this year, WE’RE THRILLED you’re considering! However, it’s really important that those who walk with us understand the investment they’re making, and the work they are contributing to.  Take a minute to browse our website: this way, you can be confident that your hard earned donations are truly making a difference in the community.

Three easy ways to get involved:

PARTICIPATE
It's a lot of fun and it doesn't hurt THAT much! All we ask for is a hour of your time, and a minimum donation of $100 ($50 for students). Walk alone, or represent your business or corporation by entering a team! Did we mention there are prizes, surprises AND that we offer FREE LUNCH*!

Fill out a registration form and fax it to us at 519-267-6440 today so we can reserve your size!

DONATE
Watch for our new website, which will make donating to your choice of walker or team really easy! In the meantime, call us at 519-267-6444 and we can take your donation over the phone, or click HERE to donate! All donations over $20 come with a charitable receipt.

CHALLENGE
The number one reason men walk is because a friend or colleague asked them to: so if you want to help us, please ask someone you know! If you're walking alone, enlist the help of friends or colleagues: If you're walking as a team, challenge another local business to a friendly rivalry (we have a few ways to help with that!)

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the shoe a symbol for?
The shoes are a symbol of solidarity. When you put on those red shoes you are making a public declaration to the women and girls of Cambridge that you will walk beside them and speak up for the issues that affect them.

Why do we walk?

Our unique programs support women on their journey to economic independence; build a safer community by reducing violence and aggression in schools and promoting pro-social behaviour; create safe spaces for girls and young women to learn skills that will help them to develop healthy, equal relationships; and cultivate women leaders of tomorrow through leadership opportunities for girls.

Where do I get the shoes?

We provide your shoes! Make sure to register TODAY to reserve your size.

How can I get people to support me?

We have a TON of ways to help including photo shoots and lots of fun ideas: once you register, you'll get an email from us with all the details.

How much does the lunch cost?

Lunch is FREE for all volunteers and walkers! You can thank Turtle Jack's for generously donating lunch: in fact, do so by sponsoring them! Follow them on Facebook or Twitter, or visit their website for a look at all they have to offer.

One more question...will it hurt?

Here are a few tips to make the walk pain free:
* Remember to wear thin socks
* Wear bandaids on your heels to prevent blisters
* Try wrapping an elastic band around your shoes to keep them from slipping
* Practice, practice, practice
* Get a friend to join you, and challenge each other!
* Take your time, walk confidently and most importantly: HAVE FUN!
