Job Title: Maintenance Worker

Location: YWCA Cambridge Women’s Emergency Shelter, 2 Grand Ave. S., Cambridge, ON (Grace Bible Church)

Status: Permanent, part-time
Hours:
20 hours per week
Hourly Wage: $23/hr
Reports To:  Shelter Manager 

Position Overview:

YWCA Cambridge Emergency Women’s Shelter is seeking a dedicated and reliable Maintenance Worker to help ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment for unhoused women and gender diverse individuals. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, general maintenance skills and a compassionate approach when working in the emergency shelter.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and cleaning,
  • Conduct regular inspections of the building (indoor and outdoor), equipment and systems to identify and address maintenance needs,
  • Respond promptly to repair requests from the Shelter Manager,
  • Coordinate and communicate work with external contractors for building maintenance and repair as needed,
  • Ensure common areas, bathrooms and outdoor spaces are kept clean and in good repair,
  • Assist with setting up and moving furniture or equipment as needed,
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, and inform the Shelter Manager of any needs,
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations,
  • Communicate effectively with the Shelter Manager to coordinate maintenance activities, and
  • Support occasional emergency repairs outside of regular hours if required.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in maintenance, facilities management, or a related field,
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 15-50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching and climbing ladders,
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail,
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively,
  • Respect for YWCA Cambridge’s mission, vision and values, and
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:

  • Part-time position with a flexible schedule of 20 hours per week,
  • Work environment may include exposure to cleaning products, tools, and outdoor tasks.
