Volunteer Member, Board of Directors

YWCA Cambridge is an association by, for and about women, girls, and gender diverse individuals. As a member agency of YWCA Canada, we are part of a national movement that is the country’s largest and oldest women’s multi-service organization. We believe in and support the growth and development of healthy communities.

We are currently recruiting for up to 4 passionate, action and impact-oriented individuals to join our Volunteer Board of Directors.

About the Role

As a member of our Board of Directors you will be responsible for the following:

  • Advocate for the advancement of the work we do and the communities we support
  • Helping advance the YWCA’s Global mission through your own networks
  • Attend and actively participate in all Board of Directors meetings and other YWCA Cambridge committees
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and support to the incredibly talented staff
  • Drive impact across the organization and community by rolling up your sleeves and helping anywhere needed
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in the best interest of the organization, and never individual interests
  • Adhere to bylaws as outlined in the YWCA Cambridge’s governance documents

About You

You are someone who:

  • Is deeply passionate and committed to ensuring equity and inclusion for cis and trans women and girls and non-binary and two-spirit individuals
  • Is dedicated to community advancement and support
  • Has a demonstrated history of advocacy and relationship building
  • Isn’t afraid of hard work or tough conversations
  • Can offer a new perspective crafted through a variety of experiences
  • You bring a helpful set of skills to the Board of Directors

Experience

The YWCA is looking for and individuals with a diverse mix of perspectives, skills, and experiences to help guide our vision forward. We value all perspectives and lived experiences and are deeply committed to mentoring those who may be starting to build their board of director level experience. This year, we are particularly eager to welcome candidates 30 years old or younger and from diverse equity-seeking groups.

Additionally, we are currently seeking those individuals with experiences in any of the following areas:

  • Finance
  • Legal
  • HR
  • Community relations
  • Social justice advocacy
  • Fundraising and donor relations

Time Commitment

Our non-executive Board of Directors members commit an average of 4-6 hour per month to the YWCA of Cambridge.

Regular Board of Director terms are 4-5 years. All members must be able to offer a minimum 2-year commitment.

Closing Date

These BOD opportunities will close as of April 2, 2024. We invite all interested candidates to join us for a virtual general information session via Zoom, on March 27, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., to learn more about these exciting opportunities. All interested candidates are asked to pre-register using this Google form.
