Why we walk

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a playful opportunity to raise awareness in our community about the serious nature of inequality and gender-based violence. By bringing this national fundraising program to Cambridge, YWCA is honoured to walk alongside our supporters in the community as we raise funds to support local programs to empower, embolden and protect cis and trans women and girls and non-binary and two-spirit individuals. We walk in solidarity for equality, safety and tolerance in our community.

The premise is simple: participants register as a team or individual, raise pledges & rally together to walk a few blocks alongside your neighbours, colleagues, friends and family. This community-building event brings everyone together in an afternoon of fundraising, celebration, music, food and fun for the whole family.

The Walk is open to all because we each have an important role to play in building up tolerance and equality in our community.

Don’t want to sport the traditional red heels? No problem! Stiletto or pump, flat or sling back, flip flops or decorate your own shoes, Walk A Mile style – you decide.  All that matters is that you come with your game face on, ready to strut your stuff for the women in your life and the hundreds of women and girls who access services through YWCA Cambridge. As always, we will provide red heels for any walker who wants to don them.

“I participate in Walk a Mile every year because I know it’s one small thing I can do to encourage fellow men and boys to acknowledge the existence of gender-based violence and to take responsibility for the role each of us has in standing up against it.”

Walk with us

Without the support of our incredible Walk participants each year, we would be doing this work alone. Your commitment to creating a community of equality and free from gender-based violence makes you a hero in our eyes. So thank you for walking alongside us all these years.

To get started, register as an individual or create or join an existing team through our registration portal. Using the Artez portal, you will be able to create a custom registration page that you can share with your network to solicit donations that are easily assigned to your fundraising goals.

Support a walker or a team by making a donation to help them reach their goal. You can search for participants by name or team name HERE

All funds raised support the programs of YWCA Cambridge, making your impact local. Your support will be used to run programs designed to instill confidence & self-esteem, empower participants to find their voice and demand equality and a life free from violence and full of opportunity.

Partnership Opportunities

We are grateful to the generosity of our corporate sponsors and community partners. Together we create a memorable community-focussed event that brings together friends, neighbours and family to raise awareness about the impact of gendered violence in Cambridge. Our partners make this event possible, through financial and in-kind support, with all funds raised supporting the vital programs of the YWCA Cambridge.

If your team would like to work with us to raise your profile in the community, create a unique employee team building event or chat about creating a corporate partnership that meets your marketing objectives, please contact Caroline Barker, Director of Philanthropy, at 519.267.6444 ext. 225 or via email at c.barker@ywcacambridge.ca
