About the YWCA Cambridge

YWCA Cambridge is a feminist organization dedicated to advancing the rights, safety, and opportunities of women, girls, and gender-diverse people through advocacy, programming, and community partnership. We are seeking three new Board members to join our governance team and support our mission and strategic priorities.

About the Role

Board members play a critical role in providing strategic oversight, governance, and community leadership. This is an active Board where all members are expected to contribute their expertise, support key initiatives, and serve on at least one sub-committee.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic guidance on the organization’s mission and direction
  • Uphold strong governance and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Review and approve budgets, policies, motions, and strategic plans
  • Support and advise the CEO and other key staff members at their request
  • Champion key priorities like:
    • Financial sustainability and growth,
    • Advocacy and policy influence,
    • Program expansion and modernization,
    • Community partnerships and visibility,
    • Equity, diversity, and inclusion,
    • Governance excellence, and
    • Organizational transformation.
  • Act as a community ambassador for the organization
  • Participate in fundraising efforts (time, expertise, networks and/or financial contributions where possible)

 

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome experienced leaders who bring:

  • Prior Board or governance experience (preferred)
  • Expertise in one or more of:
    • Human Resources / People & Culture
    • Legal / Governance
    • Finance / Accounting / Audit
  • A strong commitment to advancing equity and social justice
  • A collaborative, engaged, and mission-driven mindset

 

Emerging Leaders Welcome

We proudly encourage young women under 30 to apply through our Board pipeline initiative designed to develop future governance leaders.

Time Commitment

  • 4-6 hours per month
  • Term: Minimum 2 years, up to 4 years per term (renewable)
