HR Generalist (Full-Time, One-Year Contract)

Salary Range: $73,000 – $76,000

The Opportunity

YWCA Cambridge is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in a newly created role. Reporting to the CEO, the HR Generalist will play a key role in supporting staff across the employee lifecycle and both strengthening and developing our people and culture practices.

This position works collaboratively with the Leadership Team to ensure HR practices are equitable, compliant, and aligned with our organizational values.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Support full-cycle recruitment across programs including shelter, child care, youth and women’s programs, and administration
  • Coordinate job postings, screening, interviews, and reference checks
  • Support equitable, inclusive, and bias-aware hiring practices
  • Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes
  • Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Serve as a first point of contact for HR-related inquiries
  • Support managers with performance management, attendance management, and workplace conflict resolution
  • Assist with workplace investigations in collaboration with the CEO and Leadership Team
  • Promote employee engagement, wellness, and a respectful workplace culture
  • Coordinate any WSIB filings

Performance Management & Learning

  • Support performance review processes
  • Assist in identifying training and professional development needs
  • Coordinate internal training, including health and safety, DEI, and mandatory compliance training

Policy, Compliance & HR Administration

  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario employment legislation, including ESA, OHRC, OHSA, and AODA
  • Support workplace accommodation processes

Health, Safety & Risk Management

  • Chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee
  • Support occupational health and safety initiatives and incident reporting
  • Promote a safe, healthy, and trauma-informed work environment

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Reconciliation

  • Embed equity, inclusion, belonging, and reconciliation principles into all HR practices
  • Support organizational initiatives that advance anti-oppression, gender equity, and reconciliation

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field
  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or community services environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment legislation; Ontario experience is an asset
  • CHRP designation or working toward it is considered an asset

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Commitment to feminist, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and trauma-informed practice
  • Adaptable, solutions-focused approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related tools

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with some flexibility for hybrid work
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required
  • Interaction with staff across multiple programs and sites
  • Proof of qualifications and professional credentials will be required
