POSITION: Supply Staff Educator
Hourly Wage: $18-$20/hour
Status: Supply Staff
Hours: Vary depending on needs of YWCA Cambridge’s five child care centres. The more open availability a candidate has, the more shifts they will receive. Calls for coverage can come between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Shifts vary from 0 to 7.5 hours.

This would be a position for you! The supply staff is responsible for assisting the child care staff in the implementation of the high quality child care program that meets the needs of each child as an individual. The supply staff is on call to work on an occasional basis as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- One year of experience working with children in a child care centre;
- If a RECE, a member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators;
- Valid Standard First Aid and Infant and Child CPR;
- Vulnerable Sector Check (within the past 6 months); and
- Education related to the education field. If you have no experience in the child care field you will be required to complete one week of in person voluntary job shadowing in our child care centres.
DETAILS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Using the Reggio Emilia Philosophy in combination with the YWCA Program Statement and Implementation Policies, help to develop and implement a high quality program in which the children are valued as capable and competent.
Duties:
- Follow the staff’s direction regarding the program web which outlines the current interests of the children and includes a full range of curriculum areas.
- Participate in program planning when the regular staff person’s absence extends beyond the period for which planning is in place.
- Provide spontaneous activities for the children as needed.
- Help to provide provocations for the children in order to observe where their interests lie.
- Listen to the children’s interactions to determine their interests and the equipment they might require. Discuss these observations with the staff member in the room.
- Scaffold on existing learning.
- Help staff to complete documentation for the children to revisit and to form the basis of discussions with parent/guardians.
- Responsibility: Health and safety of all children in the program.
Duties:
- Maintain the ordered arrangement, appearance and décor of the learning environment.
- Ensure that equipment and furnishings are kept in good repair and in sufficient quantity
- Help to maintain a safe, healthy environment for adults and children.
- Administer first aid when required.
- Responsibility: Maintain positive and supportive communications with children, parents and centre staff.
Duties:
- Contribute to maintaining an environment in which everyone has a sense of belonging.
- Contribute to the daily journal including communication with the centre staff.
- Communicate with parents at the beginning and end of the child’s day.
- Document suspected child abuse and report to the Supervisor, understanding personal liability for reporting procedures.
- Responsibility: Perform administrative duties.
Duties:
- Participate in an orientation session to Policies and Procedures.
- Follow YWCA Personnel Policies and Procedures and YWCA Child Care Policies and Procedures as they apply to the supply staff position.
- Comply with all municipal, regional and provincial requirements related to operating a licensed child care program in Ontario.
- Assume an equal share of the staff housekeeping responsibilities.
- May be required to undertake other related duties as requested by members of the child care team.
- Accountability: Accountable to the supervisor of the program, or in their absence the designated assistant.
