Position: Extended Day Program Lead
Hours: 37.5 hours/week, (7.5 hours per day), this is a closing shift – must be willing to work varied hours to support centre needs.
Start date: August 3 2026
Rate: 27.86- 36.50, based on experience
Job Summary:
The Extended Day Program Lead position is designed to assist in directly overseeing the kindergarten and school-age programming. This role supports the Extended Day Supervisor in daily operations. Duties and responsibilities are assigned collaboratively by the Extended Day Supervisor, Child Care Supervisor and the Director of Child Care Services.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Support Program Quality and Evaluation
Responsibility:
Work collaboratively to ensure a high-quality early learning environment for all programs.
Duties Include:
- Actively participate in Early Years Engage (Region of Waterloo’s Quality Initiative)
- Assist with YWCA program evaluations and staff evaluations
- Use program assessment tools to assess quality
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Assist in Staff Orientation and Supervision
Responsibility:
Support the orientation, training, and supervision of staff, students, and volunteers within the extended day programs.
Duties Include:
- Use the Orientation Checklist for onboarding new staff, students and volunteers
- Utilize the Supervision Form when applicable
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Perform Administrative and Licensing Tasks
Responsibility:
Support day-to-day administration, and compliance with licensing regulations.
Duties Include:
- Conduct monthly fire drills
- Ensure all playground checks are being completed
- Maintain files in compliance with licensing requirements
- Track inventory
- Overseeing arrival and dismissal times
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Foster Positive Communication and Relationships
Responsibility:
Maintain effective communication with children, families, staff, school partners, community partners, and the organization.
Duties Include:
- Attend and contribute to centre staff meetings
- Attend all trainings set out by your supervisor and YWCA
- Support a collaborative, respectful work environment
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

- Must comply with all YWCA Cambridge policies and teach them
- Serves as a role model for staff and mentor others
- Performance concerns may lead to removal from the position
- Responsibilities and duties are subject to review
- Must hold a valid membership in a recognized ECE professional organization
Accountability
Reports to the Extended Day Supervisor, the Child Care Supervisor and ultimately the Director of Child Care Services.
Educational & Certification Requirements
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma or equivalent
- Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Standard First Aid with Infant and Child CPR
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
- Valid Safe Food Handlers Certificate
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years in a licensed child care setting
- Minimum 1 year of service at YWCA Cambridge

It should also be noted that shifts and/or positions are not guaranteed and change with the needs of the Centre. Needs of the whole child care department will be taken into account prior to making any decisions to transfer staff.
This position is for our new Child Care Centre.
