ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR – YWCA CAMBRIDGE CHILD CARE SERVICES

Position: Assistant Supervisor

Hours: 37.5 hours/week, (7.5 hours per day), this is a closing shift – must be willing to work varied hours to support centre needs.

Start date: August 3 2026

Rate: 27.86- 36.50, based on experience

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Supervisor will learn the day-to-day duties of operating a child care centre and share in the responsibilities of the supervisor. Specific duties related to standard responsibilities are assigned by the Supervisor in collaboration with the Director of Child Care Services.

The Assistant Supervisor serves as official designate at the centre in the absence of the Supervisor.

Responsibility:

  1. Become knowledgeable of the Supervisor’s responsibilities and duties per the job description.

Duties:

  • Manage child care fees collection, maintaining records, invoicing etc.
  • Keep children’s files up to date
  • Provide tours to potential new families
  • Help/assist Supervisor managing the waitlist on HSN Onelist system.
  • Manage all processes related to enrolling new families
  • Other specific duties to be agreed upon by the Supervisor and the Assistant

Responsibility:

  1. Assist the Supervisor with orientation, training and supervision of staff, students and volunteers.

Duties:

  • Become familiar with the Orientation Checklist and assist Supervisor with orientation of new staff and students.
  • Assign a “designate” in Assistant’s absence.
  • Monitor need for and administer schedule changes.
  • Able to use “Supervision” form as needed.
  • Other specific duties to be agreed upon by the Supervisor and the Assistant.

Responsibility:

  1. Assists the Supervisor in ensuring a high quality child care program for all children.

Duties:

  • Supportive of and an active participant in Early Years Engage – Region of Waterloo’s Quality Initiatives program.
  • Shares responsibility for YWCA Program Evaluations in the Centre and evaluations on staff members.
  • Shares responsibility for using ECERS/ITERS/SACERS in the program.
  • Other specific duties to be agreed upon by the Supervisor and the Assistant

Responsibility:

  1. Assists the Supervisor with administrative duties related to registration, licensing and daily operation.

Duties:

  • Able to complete monthly subsidy submission.
  • Able to complete monthly billing.
  • Able to complete Occupancy Reports.
  • Conducts fire drills.
  • Maintains children’s files as required for licensing.
  • Other specific duties to be agreed upon by the Supervisor and the Assistant.

Responsibility:

  1. Ensure positive and supportive communication and relationships with children, parents, community partners, Board of Directors and team members.

Duties:

  • Attends YWCA Cambridge Centre staff meetings and helps plan if needed.
  • Attend supervisors’ meetings if requested.
  • Attend other leadership meetings as assigned.
  • Other specific duties to be agreed upon by the Supervisor and the Assistant.

TERMS:

  • The Educator Job Description applies to this position.
  • This position follows all guidelines laid out in the YWCA Cambridge Policies Binder.
  • Assistant Supervisors act as role models for all staff.
  • Specific duties will be reviewed by the Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor at the request of either party.
  • Assistant Supervisors will support the early childhood profession and quality by holding a personal, current membership in a recognized professional organization.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Accountable to the Supervisor and ultimately the Director of Child Care Services.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Early Childhood Educational Diploma or equivalent
  • Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Standard First Aid and Infant and Child CPR
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
  • Safe Food Handlers Certificate

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years in a licensed child care environment.
  • Minimum 1 year at YWCA Cambridge.
  • Leadership experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered with College of Early Childhood Educators and in good standing (RECE).

It should also be noted that shifts and/or positions are not guaranteed and change with the needs of the Centre.  Needs of the whole child care department will be taken into account prior to making any decisions to transfer staff.

This position is for our new Child Care Centre in Southeast Galt.
