Overview

YWCA Cambridge is looking for an experienced Program Facilitator to support our pre-employment and life skills program for women, Small Steps to Success. This holistic program supports women facing significant barriers to employment due to social and economic hardship. Participant-identified barriers often include, mental and emotional health, education, lack of esteem/confidence, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, lack of support within their home, history of abuse/neglect/homelessness and/or substance use.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure program materials are kept relevant to participant needs and best practices.
  • Facilitate three 12-week sessions of Small Steps to Success throughout the year (sessions starting each January, April and September).
  • Prepare and deliver daily workshops related to life skills and employment throughout each program session.
  • Support participants throughout the program and beyond, including helping them secure work placements.
  • Maintain supportive relationships with Small Steps graduates beyond their completion of the program, supporting them with barriers or challenges they identify and creating opportunities for grads to gather and network. Post-program support can include: help with job searches and/or school applications, trouble shooting, problem-solving, or just being there to listen.
  • Foster relationships with local employers and community partners, keeping up with employment trends, while coordinating and facilitating the program with an inclusive, intersectional feminist, anti-oppressive framework.
  • Reports to the Director of Programs and work closely with the Program Coordinator to support and advocate for participants to help build healthy self-esteem, confidence and self-image.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, or relevant work and/or volunteer experience.
  • An understanding and knowledge of systemic barriers impacting women and gender diverse individuals.
  • Experience in group facilitation and community outreach.
  • Experience working with women with multiple barriers.
  • Ability to work from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed perspective.
  • Experience in networking and job development.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including women and gender diverse folks from various cultural backgrounds and income levels, and sensitivity to their needs.
  • Ability to work one-on-one with women in crisis.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

The position may require flexible hours, with some evening and weekend hours, depending on programming and events
