What. A. Day!
On October 18, 2025, downtown Cambridge came alive with red shoes, red t-shirts, music, laughter, dancing, and community spirit as we gathered for Walk a Mile in Their Shoes 2025. And you absolutely rocked it!
Together, we raised an incredible $12,428.96! That’s a step forward for gender equity in our community and a powerful reminder of what we can do when we walk together for change.
The Energy Was Electric
Teams rolled into Civic Square, City Hall with red shoes and shirts, families came ready to cheer, and our volunteers brought the heart and hustle that make this event so special.
After a warm welcome and some pre-walk fun, we laced up our red shoes and took to the streets, marching, dancing, and laughing our way through downtown Cambridge. Along the route, there were honks, high-fives, and so many smiles. It was impossible not to feel the joy and unity in the air.
And of course, we can’t forget the epic performance by the KW Breakers, who had the crowd on their feet (and some of us trying a few moves ourselves!).
Every Step Makes an Impact
Beyond the music and the fun, every step we took meant something powerful. The funds raised from Walk a Mile go directly toward:
- Emergency shelter services, providing safety, stability, and support for women and gender-diverse people experiencing homelessness.
- Violence prevention and gender equity programs, reaching youth in schools and the community with programs on topics like consent, healthy relationships, and breaking down gender stereotypes.
These programs work hand-in-hand to combat gender-based violence through both prevention and recovery, ensuring that women and gender-diverse individuals have the support they need and that our community actively works to stop violence before it happens.
These funds help us meet urgent needs while investing in long-term change, working toward the goal of a Cambridge where every person has the opportunity to live free from violence and inequality.
A Community That Walks the Talk
Walk a Mile is a bold statement. It’s a moment for our community to come together, stand up, and say: violence against women and gender-diverse people has no place here.
Seeing so many individuals, families, teams, and local businesses come out, many for the first time, others year after year, reminds us that this work is truly shared. It’s community in action, and it’s what makes this event so special.
Thank You for Walking With Us
To every walker, donor, sponsor, and volunteer — thank you. You made this year’s Walk a Mile unforgettable. Your generosity fuels our programs, your voices amplify our message, and your steps help pave the way toward a safer, more equitable Cambridge.
And while the walk may be over, our mission continues. If you missed this year’s event or want to keep the momentum going, you can still make a donation to support YWCA Cambridge’s programs and services.
Because when we walk together, we don’t just raise funds. We raise awareness. We raise hope. We raise the bar for what’s possible.
❤️ Thank you, Cambridge — we can’t wait to see you next year!
