1. What was your reaction/thoughts when you were approached for a Women of Distinction nomination?
I was awarded the Young Women of Distinction in 2012 when I was 17. I was extremely humbled to have my community service efforts recognized and ecstatic to celebrate it among so many amazing women in my community. It really motivated me to continue to build upon what I’ve done to try and make a difference.
2. What have you been up to since your big win?
Now at age 23, I am a practicing licensed pharmacist and also an entrepreneur involved with several healthcare technology start ups. I have been awarded 2nd place in a nationwide Canon Business Pitch Competition with my design for using camera technology to prevent gym equipment injuries. This year, I was the winner of the Boldest vision and idea at the Waterloo Women: Ideas, Makers, and Innovators competition with a platform to improve patient access to healthcare information and data for a better understanding of their health.
3. What’s your personal or professional motto?
Always do the things that scare you.
4. What’s an issue happening right now in your community that your passionate about?
As our population ages, there is an increasing burden on the healthcare system in Canada. We need to find innovative ways to utilize technology to improve the efficiency and quality of care provided.
5. What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
6. What question do you wish people would ask you – and what’s your answer to that question?
What is the best way to destress? An intense workout at the gym followed by a relaxing bath with candles and a good music playlist.
