She Talks Spotlight: Lynn Spence

The woman, the icon, the legend… you know who we’re talking about! Lynn Spence, a long-time friend of YWCA Cambridge, lent us a few insights. But her words, like her style, are much better when seen up close… trust us.  Grab your tickets to She Talks so you can hear more from her on May 1!

1. What does the word tenacity mean to you?
Fearless in spite of being afraid. Acting instead of reacting

2. In moments of self-doubt or adversity, how do you build yourself back up again?
Remind myself that I am not perfect, but I strive to do the best I can and the next time I will be better. Forgive myself, move forward, a little more carefully until I have my footing again. Then, away I go.

3. What’s your personal or professional motto?
I tell women everywhere I go to”Dress for the woman you are, not the woman you were or the woman you want to be” . Seems to work every time.

4. What does the world need more of? Less of?
Women in politics, IE President, Prime Minister. Women multi task and are more empathetic. Fewer bullies in powerful positions.

5. Name the biggest overall lesson you’ve learned about leadership.
To be as authentic as I could possibly be, in every thing I did, every where I went, and with everyone I meet.

6. What do you have to say about the importance of women supporting other women?
Women are very tough on each other and can do so much more together than apart. Women are too territorial, too possessive, and hold grudges. Women need to learn to be kinder to them selves and reach out to each other on a more regular basis, share more about their own fears . Women must listen to each other, learn from each other and stand up for each other. United, women are powerful.
