You Helped Open the Doors: A Shelter, a Haven, a New Beginning

Cambridge, ON — May 15, 2025 — YWCA Cambridge was recently presented with an $8,000 donation raised by  the Rotary Club of Cambridge Preston-Hespeler at their March 29 Boots and Bands event.

The vibrant evening featured live music, line dancing, auctions and prizes — all in support of a vital cause. Proceeds from the event will directly support YWCA Cambridge’s newly opened emergency shelter for women experiencing homelessness, which began operating downtown Galt in February 2025.

“We’re deeply grateful to the Rotary Club of Cambridge Preston-Hespeler for their continued support of our work,” said Kim Decker, YWCA Cambridge CEO. “This donation helps us provide critical services to women in need of immediate shelter and support, while also helping sustain our work to secure  a permanent location for the shelter.”

YWCA Cambridge opened the temporary emergency shelter in the basement of Grace Bible Church in response to the growing housing crisis and urgent need for safe, supportive spaces for women facing homelessness in the community. With this generous contribution, the organization hopes to build further momentum toward long-term, sustainable solutions.

“We know we can’t do this work alone,” said Decker. “Partnerships like this one with the Rotary Club are key to creating lasting change.”
